Energy for Health - and the people behind it

Richard Millard is the Managing Director of Energy for Health and here introduces the background to the company. "Energy for Health was formed in 2002 with the aim of offering innovative and inexpensive tools for maintaining good health in the home, by combining the knowledge and expertise of East & West; North & South.
"Pictured here with Hannah McDonald (who developed our Practitioner Forum and designed the Practitioner Trials conducted with our Passive Exercisers) are my wife, Kimiyo, and myself at an Exhibition in Olympia, London - where we demonstrated the FlexxiCore, our innovative passive exerciser.

"Kimiyo is a State Registered Nurse with many years experience in Japanese hospitals. She has a searching eye when it comes to choosing quality healthcare products, and a deep interest in the many strands of traditional and modern medical knowledge that are evolving so fast these days.

"I have lived in Japan for over 10 years myself, and grew to appreciate the way in which Japanese society blends its traditional understanding and practices with all the new knowledge that is these days emerging from all corners of the world.

"The Japanese really seem to thrive by learning about anything that WORKS WELL - and then adapting it to their own needs. CONSTANT IMPROVEMENT IS THE WATCHWORD, and QUALITY is the result, no matter what the source of the knowledge, research, technology and materials.

"Our first project at Energy for Health was to research a class of Passive Exercise Machines that has been immensely popular in the Far East for about 20 years. The first of these passive exercisers was invented in Japan in 1989 - adopting the principle of what the Japanese affectionately call "Goldfish Exercise" - a way of exercising the spine which predates the machines by many decades.

"After becoming hugely popular among the Chinese too, these exercisers later reached the West and became known as "Chi Machines" (and later the term was registered as a Trade Mark by the Taiwanese company that introduced the original model to the West). The name includes the word 'chi' because of the energising effect these exercisers give - based on the Chinese understanding of the benefits that come from stimulating 'chi' energy to boost all the body's healing and energy systems.

"Energy for Health introduced the forerunner to the FlexxiCore Passive Exerciser to the UK in 2003. After working closely with many healthcare practitioners and ordinary people over the last 13 years, and with the manufacturers in Taiwan, we have launched several upgrades and have witnessed a broad range of health benefits that can potentially help people of all ages and fitness levels.

"We enjoy hearing the many stories of people who have found benefits of many kinds from using the FlexxiCore over the last nine years. We have also been greatly encouraged by the positive response of healthcare professionals - including more than 200 who participated in two series of trials undertaken during 2005 - 2007. A full report on the 1st Phase of these Practitioner Trials was published in Positive Health magazine [www.positivehealth.com] in July 2006.

"A 2nd series of trials in which over 60 Healthcare Professionals undertook trials with selected clients who had specific conditions has produced some really interesting Case Studies that confirm how much relief the Flexxicore can give to people with chronic conditions of many types."
